Dubai’s mobile network is fast and reliable, run by two providers — Etisalat and du — both of which sell tourist and resident SIMs at the airport and across the city.
At Dubai International
Both providers have counters in arrivals selling tourist SIMs with a set data allowance for a fixed number of days — quick and simple, if a bit more expensive than buying elsewhere.
eSIM
Both networks, plus international eSIM providers, offer digital plans that can be activated before arrival — a good option if you’d rather not queue at the airport.
For residents
Once you have an Emirates ID, both providers offer significantly better value monthly plans than the tourist packages — worth switching over within your first few weeks if you’re staying longer term.
A note on VoIP
Some VoIP services including certain call features on WhatsApp are restricted in the UAE. Video calling generally works fine; check current restrictions if voice calls over these apps are essential for you.
